*shrug* Some kids are past that kind of thing. Even at 7. My 6 year old wasn't allowed to purchase a book about the human body yesterday at the school book fair.
TOTALLY burned me up. He is was way beyond Thomas the Tank Engine FFS.
I'm agreeing here too! That's ridiculous. First off, at least here when my son was little and going to book fairs, the people running it were parent volunteers - so I'm not sure they should be deciding who can buy what.
If it was a class that age that came through as a group and there were books they felt inappropriate for them, they shouldn't have even been on display then.
Either way, a book about the human body not being okay? I'd go back and get it if it's not too late.
Sproodle. Thanks for posting. May I ask how old your daughters are? (The one you allowed to read it and the one you wouldn't) Thanks.
I allowed my 14 yo to read is, as long as she promised not to become obsessed. My 12 yo hasn't really expressed any interest in reading/watching, but if she does I'd probably let her..we'd probably watch/read together so we could talk about the issues that come up. I'm not going to allow my 9 yo to read it, I just think she's too young.

Thanks for replying. I'm always interested in hearing what "reasonable sounding" people are thinking!

No problem! I'm very strict with my kids, so most people don't think I'm reasonable..I guess I'm just doing what I think is best for them, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.
When it comes to reading, I allow my daughter to read a lot of books that are considered out of her age range. She is a very gifted reader and although she is only 10 yo, she reads on a high school level. That being said, once you get into that level of reading, the books tend to be sexier and more involved in the love lives of the characters. I always seek advice when picking out books for her and try to make sure I buy the most toned-down versions of whatever book I purchase, but I can understand why someone may allow their 7 year old to read the Twilight book series.
I'd be burned too. At age 3, my daughter had a number of what we called her 'Body books'. She studied them constantly and wanted to be a neo-natal specialist. She knew every part of the body including all organs and their functions before she was 4.
Walk your son into the book fair and buy the book for him.
We agree! LOL And I am doing just that this afternoon!!

Oh so only reasonable people think exactly like you. Gotcha!
