Guardisil wasn't even on my radar as I was typing that... My brain really wants to put that in a category separate and away from childhood immunizations - but I think yours was a pretty reasonable response. My understanding is that guardisil doesn't protect against all types of HPV and not even all types that can be associated with cervical cancer. I would think twice about that, also.
How old was your daughter when this happened?
She was 12. I really don't get pushing it for 12 year olds when they think it may only be effective for as few as 7 years. That would have it wearing off in college. I'm not sure what you accomplish here other than making lots of money for the company that makes the vaccine.
I don't really understand pushing this one given it's not effective against all viruses that cause cervical cancers let alone all cervical cancers and you still have to have yearly screenings. Now, if they told me she'd never have to have a pap smear in her life if she got the shot, that might be a different story....

I'm sure I don't understand your meaning. I don't yet have a daughter (and may never), but I'm irrationally and obsessively certain that if I do she will be quite a good girl during her undergraduate studies.
I'm not going to read this thread because it will make me sick *lol*. I ask you to do one thing before bashing non-vaccinating families, and that is to educate yourself about this subject. I also recommend reading "Saying No To Vaccines" by Dr. Sherri J. Tenpenny. It shocks me that people believe so blindly when it comes to this subject.
OP, I don't know if you are still lurking but here is a link that could be helpful: http://www.novaxdoctors.webs.com/ (broken link)

It shocks me that anyone would believe what a quack like Tenpenny writes
Dr. Sherri Tenpenny and many of the other Dr.'s (some real and some quacks) who have voraciously spoken out against vaccination are D.O.'s, not M.D.'s. There's a difference. Whichever way you lean you'll find which physician type works best for you and your family and shares your beliefs.
And whichever way you lean, also, you'll find "facts" to support your beliefs. Those "facts" will be based on studies done which are sponsored by various groups... some with personal motives and some not... and statistics and findings are easy to manipulate, honestly.
We live in a capitalist society. "Dr.'s" write books, too, and need to earn a living. They know this is a hot topic and that their books will sell, whether they are selling to the anti-vax crowd or the pro-vax crowd.
It's so confusing to know what to do and who to believe. Our kids go to public school, we travel, and they live out in the real world... so we choose to vaccinate. When they were babies, though, we didn't vaccinate according to the mandated schedule. We spread things out. It just seemed like too many shots and stuff being put into my babies little bodies all at once. We also choose not to get the ones which are not required by law for student attendance (like the various flu shots). We've never had the flu, and our kids are happy and healthy. Honestly I think breastmilk should be the only thing mandated to be given to our children in the first year of their lives, rather than all these shots containing questionable fluids, but I'm no doctor so what the heck do I know?
I had a conversation about this with a doctor and it made a lot of sense to me. People who don't vaccinate now are protected at the moment because most people do. As soon as it starts to shift where less people are vaccinating it will be a much different story.
We've had this same kind of conversation with our good doctor (M.D.). We're in Oregon where there are a lot of families here who do not vaccinate and we've seen the effects of this. We're seeing children sick with things here that we never saw when we lived in more conservative areas of the country where it was more the norm to vaccinate.
If you choose not to vaccinate, I think it's probably wise to either find a private school where most children there are not vaccinated, or to homeschool. Because if you don't vaccinate your children, and then send them to a place like public school where majority of the kids are vaccinated and also receiving vaccinations and then returning to school while the virus are active within them... the non-vaccinated children are then at higher risk of getting sick because they are not protected.

Yeah, . I'm figuring that as my daughter gets older, the odds of her being sexually active will go up. I'm not happy with that but I've accepted it.

It amazes me that someone writes a book and, suddenly, people believe the rest of the medical community is wrong.
On the bright side, she gets to make money selling books. That's much more paletable than companies making money protecting our kids from childhood diseases that used to kill children on a regular basis.

God forbid people want to educate themselves as much as possible prior to making vaccination decisions by looking at more then one side of the issue and seeking out reliable sources such as Dr. Tenpenny.
I have never said that you should use her as your only source. And yes Dorthy, you are right. People should look at both: pro and contra. When it comes to vaccines, people like to look at one site only and believe their doctors blindly. So yeah....
