I'm smart but no, I have never seen an "in your face breastfeeder". I know a lot of women who breastfeed, but have never seen anyone trying to flaunt their breasts while feeding their baby. Is that what you are talking about?

We'll just have to wait and see if she has an agenda or not. It's possible but so far from what I've read in various articles all she wants is a public apology.

I guess I'm "in your face," because I brought up the beach... although I'm actually pretty modest and made sure that people could not see my breast or tummy skin.

I have to agree that I know a LOT of breastfeeding moms, and have seen them all breastfeed... and in all of those years, with all of those "lactivist" type bfing moms, I've maybe caught a glimpse of a nipple twice, when the baby suddenly pulled off. I've never seen anyone disrobe or completely pull their breast out or anything remotely like that. I find it odd that so many other people (people who don't like public breastfeeding, no less) have seen this type of behavior in public, when I've never even seen it in private, among literally dozens of breastfeeding moms. Hm.

You apparently have a better class of friends. Normal people. There are people who are simply attention seekers. Some of them even breastfeed. Just because a person chooses to breastfeed, it doesn't automatically make them a good or well adjusted person. It's like anything else - in every group there are some people with issues.

Have you ever seen anyone out in public purposefully flaunting their breasts while feeding. I haven't and that's why I'm so confused. I rarely even see women breastfeeding in public but when I do notice them they are not trying to draw attention to themselves in any way shape or form.

No... I haven't seen a lot of different things but it doesn't mean they don't exist...I think I've agreed that most BF moms are not this way at all. But to me, this particular story points to her wanting some attention. Some people just enjoy being the center of attention - whatever it takes. The child is 6 mo old - she is not new to this and fumbling around trying to make it work. She had 2 experiences in as many days! The posters who have responded here have BF'd multiple children and in some cases can remember one or two incidents over the years they did this - and none had the police or the media involved. Doesn't that confuse you also?

Sounds to me like she's been trying to set herself up for a lawsuit and settlement. The restaurant doesn't deny they asked her to cover up - she herself concedes that they have a right to ask, just as she has a right to show her boobs to anyone in public. It was her 'baby daddy' who escalated this incident. She made sure to look up the laws in her state and then to re-look at them after the incident. I'm sure she'll be on one of those predatory lawyer commercials in no time!

THIS type of person is why restaurants have video cameras - just like the family of the handicapped child. Both families were asked to leave because of the obnoxious behavior of the fathers.

We recently went to a restaurant with our 10 year old ds and his best friend. They kept giggling and whispering, but wouldn't say why. As we were leaving, some guy called out "Rude little ****!" as we passed. I turned and looked at him, but he turned away. I shrugged and kept going - my dh was already outside, paying the check. Figured I misunderstood.

When we got to the car, the boys were telling my husband what happened. Apparently, there was a woman breastfeeding in the restaurant. The boys were staring and purposely walking past her again and again. (Buffet restaurant) My dh started to reprimand the boys, but I stopped him. If a woman wants to whip out her boobs in public, then she should be prepared to be watched. The "blanket fell off" excuse is BS - they have blankets that tie around your neck.

A 10 year old boy giggling and making jokes when he sees a boob is just as natural as breastfeeding.

Sorry but I would have had a discussion with my son - staring and giggling at another person (whether or not they were breastfeeding) is impolite. Period.

Are you kidding???

You are expecting your ten year old to stare, giggle, and make rude remarks to a woman feeding her baby?? If it were me nursing, I'd have said "what are you looking at?" to such a brat, and would probably ask the staff to make sure that children unable to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner be escorted to the buffet and back.

This is behavior I'd expect from a four year old who had never seen breasts used in this purpose... not ten year olds!

Yes it does seem odd that she's had two people tell her to cover up in such a short period of time. It could be bad luck or could be something else. From what I've read the woman had her shirt pulled down rather then up (I made that error when I was first learning how to breastfeed around people) and she was sitting in a booth in the back of the restaurant. It seems like the booth alone would hide a lot even if she wasn't completely covered. Maybe she was looking for a fight and attention, maybe not. I have no idea.
