Hello,

I might be moving out towards the Reading PA area. I would be working in Reading. We live near a town called Hudson, OH. If we were to move to this area again, we would have chosen Hudson to buy a house. It has a very vibrant downtown. Lots of weekend activity from live music to farmers markets and socials. there is an old section of town and a new one that was atterned after the old, a lot of small shopping, coffer, bakeries and restraunts, a great library. The people are almost overly proud of their community and there is a lot of community imvolvement. The schools are great and you actually get some people that move there just for the years their kids are in school (taxes are high), this drive a friendly community because otherwise there would be a lot of lonely people.

Anything like this in the Reading area?

Anthony

Assuming you want to avoid the suburbs and live in a proper town...

Of the area towns Lititz has the most civilized main street district, though the commute on 222 to Reading is painful during rush hour.

Of the towns closest to Reading I would choose Kutztown though again you will still have traffic issues during peak commute times.

West Reading has a sort of vibrant downtown (a few coffee shops, a bar or two with music, several unpretentious restaurants), a Farmer's market, parades on holidays, etc. The old -- older store fronts -- mixes with the new in the downtown.

Wyomissing, another suburb, has a less developed and less defined downtown, but homes on big, wide tree lined streets.

I'd second Kutztown, except for the distance, same for Lititz, too long of a commute and IMO you can find the equivalent closer.

Boyertown has a decent downtown. Reading has very vibrant suburbs and the surrounding county is more rural the farther you get from the city( except the eastern 422 corridor) Wernersville and Robesonia( western Berks) are small but have nice main thoroughfares with open rural areas just outside. Hamburg is also working on making its downtown more well known. They just had their annual hamburger festival and will soon have their yearly King Frost Parade( October 31st), the largest parade of its kind in the country.

My favorite area is West Lawn. This is coming from someone who is anti suburbia. I can't put in to words how much I loved it!

West Lawn, West Reading..good towns but for more land Bernville, Leesport, Oley...Kutztown is nice but the commute to Reading on 222 is a NIGHTmare. Long waiting times, truck traffic, whew!
