I'm a teacher looking to possibly look for a job there. I'm a SWF (34yrs old) and don't want to move to a "dead zone" and die alone with my cat...so I need the low down on Indiana. Are there places to go? Culture? Singles? or is it your run of the mill drab usual PA town w/nothing to do...help!

I think it might be kind of boring for a single thirty-some person. I went to college there, but I don't think there's a lot going on for young professionals.

A lot of gas guys are moving in to the Marcellus Shale region and some regional offices have set up shop in Indiana. So things may be looking up there for the single female.

its a nice town, but very difficult to find a teaching job. local districts start at about $50,000 per year, which makes it highly competitive.
not sure how it would be for singles. there are several bars and night spots uptown. The Coney and Culpeppers seem to have lots of 30 somethings. Wolfendales caters just to the college crowd.
Visit for a weekend and see how you like it

I grew up and went to college there. If you want to do fun things..shop, theatre, etc...not the best choice. Even when I go to visit, I usually head to Pittsburgh.

Cost of living is pretty good. And, if you do decide to continue your education, IUP is great.

THANKS! I might have an "in" as in, I might know someone who could put in a word for me for a teaching job there, but was worried about my mental health...being from PA originally, from a small town north of Pittsburgh, I know all too well what life is like in a small town...and I don't want to be single forever!

Please don't go to Indiana, PA. What an employer is NOT going to tell you is that it is next to and downwind from two coal-powered electric plants. These spew mercury into the air. Mercury can cause brain damage.

Default Indiana rural

If you like all there is to do in a city, you won't like Indiana, Pa. It's very rural and very culturally deprived. Unless you're into the redneck thing, you won't like it!

If you want a singles scene of any kind, Allegheny County is literally your only option in western Pennsylvania.
