Hi! One of the areas I am looking into moving to is Indian Mountain Lakes...Can anyone tell me the schools around that area and also, are they safe and in driving distance. I am against putting my kids on school buses (i'm a stay at home mom and want to drive them) so I know they are safe! lol...Any advice and info would be great...I'm 37 with w/ 2 small kids, is this a friendly area? Don't want to move from my unsafe unfriendly area to another. Also, do these schools have sports, my son loves baseball and soccer. Are there things to do in this area, my daughter is 5 and wants to do ballet...I don't want to be bored out of my mind, so having things around me to do would be great also...

Smile Indian Mountain Lakes

Hi Gpmama:

My parents own a vacation house there.

I am not sure what the school districts are called within the community, but I know that both are "down the mountain" based on the two main gates of the community, which mean a good twenty/thirty minutes plus drive. This would include all major sport activities, shopping, restaurants, and etc.

I would say that the area is good for kids and VERY quiet. The lakes are beautiful within the community. Because of its location, you need to be prepared to drive for entertainment. A larger number of people are moving there from NY, NJ, and Philly. Just as many people, however, own a house and vacation there on weekends or during the summer.

I hope this helps.

Default More Info

To GPMAMA:

Here is more information: The two school districts that are in the community are Jim Thorpe and Pocono Mountain.

Also, I saw from another forum that you are from the Philadelphia area. My parents live in West Chester and use the Pocono house for relaxation. There is quite a difference between the two areas! If you would like any more information you can email me at misscook@gmail.com

Best of luck!

Anyone has any updated information on Indian Mountain Lake Community?

We are in the process of buying a house in Indian mountain lake and would like your opinion in this matter. One thing we like about the community is that it is located in Carbon County, not Monroe country.

Is it safe?
Does it have troublemaker coming from Other Neighborhood to do bad things?
How is the Indian lake community? Is it friend and nice?
How about the amenity? Is it up to date and well maintained?
How is the area? How is the mix?
Are there any community activities such as BBQ, family days etc?
Is it close to shopping areas like supermarket and home depot, walmart?
Does it allow rental for weekender or weekly rental? Does the community/guards give problem on those idea?
How far is it from split rock?
Would you buy a house in the Indian mountain lake? We have 2 young kids 9 and 7.
Poconogirl. Thanks

I think that part of Indian Mt. Lakes is in Monroe County. I believe that the two school districts are actually Jim Thorpe and Pleasant Valley. Many of my daughter's friends live in there, on the Rt. 115 side and my kids go to Pleasant Valley. The Rt. 534 side is generally going to Jim Thorpe. It's not too far from Split Rock, maybe a 15 minute drive... I would not rule out Indian Mt Lakes as a place to live, I have friends who are happy there, some say the rules are a bit strict.
Sorry to here about the above posters experience, though...that I hadn't heard of. but i see it's two years old.

There are amenities and activities by what my friends tell me, and the few times we've been invited with to go to the pool, it was clean and not over crowded. Not super close to shopping centers - but you will be within a 20 - 30 minute drive of everything.

It is a gated community, with security.. and that can be a pain in the butt for your visitors.

love you poconoproud.

the house we are about to purchase is in the carbon county side. I have zoomed into google map and saw that it is right outside of Monroe and inside of Carbon.

Which means that the crime stat is lower (by numbers) and the tax is lower as well (no rushing in kids in the past 10 years --- not as much as Monroe county that is.

I have checked that the tax is almost only 30-40% of what Monroe county would pay, considering the similar size house.

Something to watch out for especially keeping a vacation home in a long run. it is part of the operation cost.

When we close the house, I will share stories with all of you.
True, it does not have an indoor pool, but there is always split rock for us (we own a time share there for day use free).

So far owning the house for over a year, we have experienced the 4 seasons there and it is well worth every penny. we managed to lower the operating cost of the house per month even lower than buying a new car... so which one would you pick, a new car or a house for all seasons =)
