As an outsider I am curious. What larger city do people in Erie connect with? That is, if you are going to a "big city" for shopping, concerts, sports, museums, business, etc, do you go to Buffalo?, Cleveland?, or Pittsburgh? What major league sports teams do people in Erie cheer for?

It's about 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 from what I remember during my time there. Maybe a little less Buffalo, a little more Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

That's interesting because isn't Buffalo the closest? And thanks for responding.

Buffalo is sort of winding down in terms of sports teams, which is the major way people connect... it's also the smallest of the three and the one with the least (most negative) growth. In terms of hockey, most people are Penguins fans, but there are a few Sabres fans running around. Football follows the original divisions I gave. Most all of the basketball fans are Cavaliers fans, and occasionally you'll see a Raptors fan. Most all of the baseball fans are Indians fans, though, with a few scattered Pirates fans and Blue Jays fans.

Yes, Buffalo is around 85-90 miles from the center of Erie, while Cleveland is 110 and around 125 to Pittsburgh.

well, while we don't travel much to other cities, definitely Cleveland for my family.

But really....shopping = Millcreek Mall or if you're feeling really daring, Grove City; why go all the way to Pittsburgh/Cleveland/Buffalo?

As for the sports teams, I almost always hear either Cleveland or Pittsburgh (pretty evenly imho), while rarely any Buffalo fans, even though we're in their viewing area.

Millcreek is a great shopping complex... it's also, in terms of square footage, the 3rd largest mall in the US.

I noticed a lot of Buffalo fans when I lived on the eastside. It was funny how that worked out
