I be going after a puppy in PA & I Live in Martinsburg WV! Looking at the map online & Trying to Advoid Penn Turnpike! I an thinking my best Routes are Going to Handcock MD getting on I70 to Breezwood then Rt 30 to Bedford then.... This is where I get confused....I99 to Rt 56 into Johntown!

Folks in those areas of PA can you come up with a better route?? I dont mind Not being on interstates!

You can use US 30 between I-70 and I-99 just as you say to avoid the toll on the Turnpike. That section of US 30 is mostly four lane, in part divided with exits and in part suburban strip (well, as suburban as one gets in Bedford County).

Although a little longer than the above route, you could take I-70 to I-68 west almost to Cumberland, to US 220 north that becomes I-99 then exit at Cessna onto PA 56.

If you really want to back road it there are many alternatives, such as WVa 9 west to River Road to cross on US 522 at Hancock, MD 144 west to US 40 Scenic to MD 144 west to Flintstone, right on East Flintstone Creek Road to Black Valley Road that becomes PA 326 at the border, which hits US 30 just east of Bedford avoiding the suburban strip, and continue as above.

I-68 west to U.S. 219 north will take you directly into Johnstown and you can avoid PA 56, which is kinda winding (but scenic) between Bedford and Windber.
