It would be nice to see a fireworks display, somewhere, without a "soundtrack".

In State College, it's gotten so bad that I volunteered to swap an evening shift with someone because I can't stand watching a fireworks show coreographed to awful music. You can't get away from it because they blast it so loud that you can hear it anywhere you can see it from, and some guy always has some bloody radio on anywhere there's a good view of the show (the music is on The Bus for all's listening pleasure). I couldn't find a good traditional show last year, so this year I swapped shifts with someone so he can have the evening off. In State College, very little of the soundtrack is even "patriotic". One year, it was music from the bloody "British Invasion" for crying out loud !

Whatever happened to letting the fireworks make their own music ?

I guess there has to be a soundtrack to everything these days. Even after a Single-A baseball game around here, there's terrible music blasted that ruins the fireworks display. Oh, and playing "girly songs" when the opposing batters are up is just plain old lame. Is that stuff going on at Pirates games ?

So, for next year, is there anywhere a fellow (or lady) can find an old fashioned fireworks display without a soundtrack ?

The fireworks in Harrisburg are launched over the Susquehanna River. This means that all of Riverfront Park (a good five miles) is prime viewing area. You will be able to escape the sound easily.

Don't get me started on how they've ruined the Fourth of July in many cities. Gone are the days when you'd hear patriotic music, have parades and would remember the significance of the day. Now its just an excuse to have a block party and trot out some of the worst has been music acts imaginable. I've seen Superbowl halftime shows that are better. Philadelphia is particularly terrible, its all pop, jazz or motown or some third rate hasbeen rock group from the 1970s. I have to listen to 1030 AM Boston to get some decent music, they at least know how to play decent music.
With these ignorant flash mobs running around they'd better have plenty of police presence this year, plenty of it.
I've always heard that the State College fireworks are particularly good, or they were.
