Anyone live in Crawford or vacation at Conneaut? What are the pros and cons? Is Conneaut Lake similar to Edinboro? Pymatuning, French Creek, and easy access to the ANF seem like great selling points for Crawford County. Less than an hour drive to Erie.

All I know about is the amusement park, which is going through a renaissance of sorts this summer after decades of neglect. The hotel is open again, and no doubt there are plenty of privately-owned cottages to rent.

Here's a link for you:

I've driven by there several times, and I can tell you it is always bustling with activity and it is very, VERY beautiful. Sailboats a plenty too. If you get bored with it, Pymatuning is not far at all from it.

I guess it all depends on what your looking for. We are from the Lehigh Valley with a vacation home by Pymatuning. Land & houses are very reasonable. Excellent fishing. But most of all we really enjoy the slower pace of life. The only thing is that nothing is close like at home. 20 mi to Home Depot, 40 min to Best Buy, usually gas is .10 more per gallon. For us it is definitely worth the trade off.

In it's heyday it was a cheap place for poor people to vacation. As a kid I'd have had a better time staying home locked in the coal cellar. If you want a great amusement park go to Cedar Point. If you want a great lake go to Erie. Conneaut is an uninteresting sideshow with limited appeal.

That is a bitter statement, PeterRabbit. Maybe because Pittsburgh doesn't have lake access or the other qualities that Crawford offers?

Not everyone wants to go to a park that costs $50 to get in. Sure, Conneaut Lake Park isn't as big as Cedar Point -- or even Waldameer -- but that's part of its charm. The Blue Streak alone is worth the trip. I had a blast at Conneaut Lake Park when I was a kid, and as an adult, too. Maybe you're just hard to please.

Lakefront cottage rentals sure are tough to come by these days. So many people have winterized their cottages -- the ones that survived the last rise in water levels, anyway.
