If I sold a car privately and it had problems after it left my yard, does the buyer have any recourse against me? The car did have some issues, but the buyers were fully aware of those issues and said they'd deal with them. The car worked fine (I had used it) right up until it left my yard. Now they're trying to make a case out of this (literally) to get me to pay to fix the issues they knew about and were willing to accept - until it actually became an issue for them.

Thanks for any advice. If you could cite websites to look at that would be great. I've done some research on my own and everything I found basically said "buyer beware", "as is", and "no implied warranty" so I think I'm good. It's just a pain to have to take time to deal with this.

I doubt if they could but they could try, and that's a pain too.

Tell them to take it to small claims court if they arent happy.
Doubt they have a case unless they can prove you were deceptive in the sale or misrepresented in some way the condition of the vehicle. which if you were up front about everything i dont see a small claims court judge ruling in their favor.

I think you're OK, but your dilemma makes a point, that especially when selling cars, boats, large appliances or motorized tools, it's best to have the buyer sign an "as is" sales agreement, or if there are known problems, list them on the agreement. And clearly state the seller will have no responsibility for any problems once the item leaves your property. I sold a washer/dryer combo years ago, they were almost new and the guy loaded them into his pick up truck, and then tried to sue me weeks later because the washer broke down. Because he signed an agreement "as is", he had no case and despite filing a claim, I didn't even get a lawyer because I knew he didn't have a case and the judge threw it out. It was a pain going through the motions of having to appear in small claims court. Many times the agreement fends off suits, but not in my case unfortunately.

As long as you sold 'As Is', they do not have a case.
