My fiance and I are first time home buyers and have started to look in the York, Pa area. We've been looking for a home for several months now, but you don't get much for your money here in MD. We found a home that we love in York, it is completely remodeled and move in ready - so it looks like the perfect option right now. The only catch is that I work at Fort Meade, however I actually work at home 2-3 days a week, so I'm thinking that this may not be too bad. My fiance's position is extremely flexible and he can work at home the majority of the time - going to the office maybe twice a month. Does anyone out there have experience with this York/Ft. Meade commute? Do you think that its bad enough to be a deal breaker even if I'm only doing it 2-3 times a week?

Thanks in advance!

adoc86, sorry can't tell you anytihing about travel time in between York and Fort Meade, but I was wondering if you can answer a question since you say you work in Fort Meade. My son is a college student and was offered a "conditional job offer" from the NSA, this is for a co-op, was wondering if you know anyting about how many applicants are actually offered jobs, or anything about the NSA in general. Thanks for any replies. Good luck with York, its a beautiful area to live in.

It can be done, but there is a good amount of traffic on that expressway! It's constantly a parking lot during commuting hours. Southern York County (Stewartstown, Shrewsbury, Glen Rock) would cut some time off, but you're still looking at an average of 1 1/2 to 2 hours each way if you travel during the typical rush hour times.
