Hi - we are considering a move to Manheim. I'm originally from LI, NY, but now live in Las Vegas, NV. Vegas is definately not a place to raise kids in my opinion, which is why we are considering moving out of here. I guess my main concerns are jobs and healthcare. Overall, how is the job market? Another think is healthcare doesn't rate very good in Vegas. For example - my husband needed brain surgery a year ago and doctors here recommended UCLA instead. So that's where we went and thank God he's fine. But for something major like that - do doctors recommend going to Philly or something like that??

I know I had more questions but my kids are distracting me right now! ha.
Can't think. Thank you for answering back.

Hershey Medical Center has a good reputation. Yes, there are also more specialized hospitals in Philly. I'm not sure if there is a job market in Lancaster County,as all the searches I do show low paying retail type jobs. Maybe another person could be more enligtening regarding the job market.

To all those people who post here asking what the job market's like in Town X, please include what career you're in and/or your qualifications. It really helps! Thanks!

I cant compare the Vegas job market to Lancaster's due to the vast majority of jobs here being Casino related.

Out here we get by just fine, actually living very well in the Clerical field. So again how would you say the job market is ( IN GENERAL ) lets say in the clerical field?

Thanks ---

Personally I'm not a big fan of Manheim. The crime rate seems to be higher there then most of other suburban towns. Unemployment in Lancaster County is below average compared to most of the other counties. There doesn't seem to be alot of white collar jobs, though. As MJK said it would help to mention what field you're in. My thought is to first try contacting some of the big employment agencies and even check out the want ads in the local papers online.

Mj thanks -- yeah i have heard clerical jobs are low paying in Lancaster, not like Vegas where you can make a nice living off of that. But low paying or not we will be fine, we just need enough cash to cover the taxes since we are paying a house off.

Thanks , time for bed

i don't see the crime in manheim much different than that of small town suburbia .. sure you have your usual teenage age stuff, but a great school... GOOOOOOO bARONS..

manheim is not really any different than lititz, mountville, ephrata, new holland, denver, terre hill ...

many folks just wear blinders here ... or think things only happen in the big cities ... compared to york, lancaster, columbia... manheim, as the above small towns, are quite safe.
