My husband is taking a job near Ft. Indiantown Gap, Pa. We are looking for somewhere near there to live. Will commute up to an hour. Looking for a small to meduim size clean town with things to do. Parks, town activities, hiking, camping, coffee shops, library, farmers market, low crime, friendly neighbors, etc... Anyone know of a great town like this? Thanks!

I'm not real sure, but I think Hershey might be within an hours commute. Its a great little town in my opinion.

Carlisle is on the other side of Harrisburg, sounds like a long commute.
Given the weather I'd stay close to the Interstate

I'm sorry, they used to have a Commissary at FTIG which is apparently closed now. Being closer to Carlisle Baarracks could be a better option

Hershey would be closer~for some reason I was associating FIG with being in conjunction with Carlisle Barracks. Now I realize it's closer to Lebanon area.

Annville, Palmyra, Cleona, Pleasant Hill. All nice, quiet little towns strung out along Rt-422 south of Indiantown Gap. They'll have just about everything you're looking for and Harrisburg or Hershey are close enough for the rest.

Small town Pennsylvania is usually pretty nice, though they are bit redneck up there.

Carlisle is too far from Indiantown Gap to do it every day. And, it's a cross roads town usually covered up in truck traffic making the journey from the turnpike to I-81. Since there are 3 or 4 truck stops there, that means a local drug and prostitution problem. I've never found anything to like about the place.

I'll have a 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath, attached 1 car garage, very nice rancher available in the coming months. 15 min from Fort Indiantown Gap. $1050, month + utilities, Water, Sewer, trash included.

Close to many things, but not in the city!

Here is a map of the property location:
