Neither, PA is unique like every state and has a unique ethnic background.

The better question would be which of those state are more like PA....I feel like other than NY, PA is the influential state to those others. OH is more like MI and IN than it is PA, the parts that bump up against PA are similar to PA, but west of that it really changes.

I still think it's a silly question. Of course states that adjoin each other are similar to each other for 100 miles or so from the state line. We used to live on the state line of Delaware and PA. We could literally walk through our back fence and be in Delaware. So, yeah Delaware County PA was very similar to New Castle County, DE but that doesn't mean that our Pennsylvania town had a lot of similarities to my hometown in lower Delaware.

Viva la difference!

This is a far too generic question. It completely depends on where you are in the state. Erie shares a lot in common with Cleveland. Southern PA shares a lot in common with West Virginia & Maryland. Northern PA with New York. Eastern PA with New Jersey. I don't believe you can pick one state & say, "this is what we're most like".

3. NY (or DE, if you are in Metro Philly)
4. ?

This is from the LV prospective.

Agreed! I grew up about 10 miles from Ohio, and I consider myself a Pennsylvania native. Ohio has no place in my psyche (not to diss Ohio).

Depends on where you are in the state....Philadelphia/SE PA is more like New Jersey. Western PA is similar to Ohio, Northeastern and North-central PA is similar to upstate NY. Northwestern PA shares characteristics of both western NY and northeast Ohio. South central PA would be more Maryland/Baltimore. But you can turn this discussion around and point out that Western NJ, Eastern Ohio, northern Maryland, northern Delaware, and the southern tier of NY state are all similar to Pennsylvania. Different cultures don't stop at state lines.

People always say that SEPA is similar to NJ. I really don't see it at all. Yes, they are both highly populated, but they don't look or feel similar in any other way.

Well, it's really the other way around (but you know that, haha). Jersey doesn't really have its own identity, because its metro areas are part of either Philly or New York. North Jersey is aligned with New York and South Jersey with Philly. And they are as different as night and day. When I lived in South Jersey (at the shore), I remember seeing Kathy Griffin's show in A.C. She started dissing the Real Housewives of NJ, and apologized to her NJ audience ("I know they're your peeps, BUT"). Nothing could be further from the truth. North Jersey is like a completely different state. But I digress from our topic....

Word up. If anything, PA is nothing like those states.
