The truth of that statement depends highly on what someone is majoring in.

Bloomsburg and Millersville are great for those seeking education-related careers, and they are probably decent in most liberal arts fields. However, they offer few technical majors and there are few students and professors in those majors compared to other schools.

For someone who wants to attend a highly ranked public university in PA and is interested in a technical major, there are two options-PSU and Pitt, with PSU being the higher-ranked option in most science and engineering majors.

that's sad!----met many psu students in my day---none were in the fairly remarkably intelligent area----but there was a great program there for dyslexic students

I cheer for the 99.9% of the Penn Staters who had absolutely nothing to do with crime committed there.

Join the lynch mob now and get in on the bloodlust before it's too late?

The focus of the inquiry will now shift upward -- to the cover-up. Paterno failed his obligation to pursue the allegations -- likely in part due to his age and having formed his opinions in a time before the Cultures of Blame and "Collective Responsibiliy" took center stage -- with help from the Absolutely Politically Correct. But the only individual actively participating in crimes against children was Jerry Sandusky.

Same old -- same old. Another rant by those who hate collegiate athletics because it has just as little use for them.

If any further wrongdoing is uncovered as the focus shifts upward (and I suspect there will be) I welcome it. But let's make cetain both that involvement in the cover-up is identified clearly with those who actually perpetrated it, and that the likely overzealous actions of the NCAA, fed by a lynch-mob mentaility and geared toward the prejudices of those outside the world of sport, receive equal attention.

It's sad that Pennsylvania has two options for highly ranked public universities with good sci/tech-oriented programs? Most states don't have any!

And clearly your experience is more important than the US News rankings or the thousands of PSU alums employed as engineers or scientists. What is a "fairly remarkably intelligent area" anyway?

Read the report and you will see the disgusting behavior of the football coach and the administrators of this university.

Shame on the people who adored football more than they cared about the children of the State.
Shame on those of you who defended and make a saint of Paterno, the god of football.

Now we know the truth about the culture of your revered university.

The people of the State of Pennsylvania needs to suspend football at this university for a number of years to show that they have some remorse and concern. It is all really about football because the coverup was done to protect the football game and its gods. This will give the university and the community time to reflect on their sins because all of you, who support this insane culture of football, are partially responsible for the coverup of the abuse.
Get off your high horse!!!

Yes those who participated in these crimes and subsequent cover-ups should be punished to the hilt, through prosecution, discredited, jailed, fined, lose any pensions and accolades. But, is it right to punish the inonncent along with the guilty? I THINK NOT !

Quality of education and university rankings are not as highly correlated as you would think, especially if we are talking about undergraduate education. Now if we are talking about the value of a degree due to networking and a large almuni base, that is a different story.

Paterno's excuse is "part due to his age"--that is nonsense.

Another ridiculous defense of a man who was involved in a criminal conspiracy to cover up sex crimes against children. It was disclosed that he was involved with the conspiracy from 1998 which would have made Paterno, much younger, at about age 71. That is why his win records were vacated back to that year by the consent decree with the NCAA.

Would you care to try again with another lame excuse?
