Hi. We will be driving in this area next week, and would like to try a steak sandwich or 2. We know it's not Phillie, but it's the area we'll be in.

Drive to Intercourse, Bird-in-a-Hand then down to Hilton Head SC. We're staying in the area of Intercourse, so we'd like to keep it to a 30 minute drive. We'll be coming down 222, 78 from Maine.

There's more to Pennsylvania cheese steak culture than just Philly.

Here; http://www.brassrailrestaurant.com/ Where I go for a cheese steak twice a month or more.
Ultra convenient to 78. In fact it's within a couple of blocks of the off ramp.
As your heading west on 78 simply take the Lehigh St exit and head South.
The Brass Rail is on your left located at 3015 Lehigh Street.

There are many many places that are steeped in Lehigh Valley Cheese steak lore but this particular restaurant is the closest to your route.
The Brass Rail has been rated one of the best cheese steaks here in this area and has been in business since 1931.
Enjoy!!!

The philly suburbs near and far are full of sandwich places. Any place as far as the Susquehana is probably a good place to get a cheesesteak. As far as farther south, I can't say. And like in Philly, some are better than others. There was a cheesesteak website that had a lot of places reviewed.
No Wawas, Subways or Quiznos. Quiznos makes some fine steak sandwiches but they aren't cheesesteaks.
There is a place in New Holland bext to a bakery that is known for making some big sandwiches. Its right on 23 on the right side if you're heading west. Thats just a few miles north of Bird in hand and a few miles west of Blueball.
Of course if I was going to be in that area I'd forget the sandwiches and go to Shady Maples smorgasboard also on 23 in East Earl just a mile or two east of Blueball.

Marks or Jazz and Nates in Kutztown!

You will be going right through Ktown or bypassing it very closely. Jazz and Nates are like relocated Philly people I think. It is decent.
