Lancaster has really bad schools, drugs, gangs, poor education, burnt out teachers, if you can research the New School, on Columbia Ave, private, however, I believe it is a charter school. Also try Millersville, they offer a great education and you don't have to worry about the problems the city has.

There are some people in Lancaster who are weird when dealing with outsiders. I am a quazi outsider in that my mom is from California, and my dad was born in Lancaster, but his parents were from the midwest and moved here in the 60s. There's a weird dynamic in Lancaster, but it makes it unique. Overall, I think you can find communities of people if you try. There are tons of transplants and Lancaster Co. pop. is over 500,000 people. Many young people move away for college and return afterwards. Anyhow, it's never as dire as some like to make it sound.
