Hey FinnMan - have you heard any news about the long proposed "bullet" train on the Metro North line going from Beacon NY to NYC? Just curious b/c it was mentioned in the late 1980's and with the huge influx of commuters I thought for sure they would push harder for it...

I moved to stroudsburg 10 years ago. My boys are 12, 8 , 5 . Yes, there are alot of ny'ers here and still alot of locals too!!! It is building up but no matter where you go you will run into the good and the bad. I love being here. My husband works in Stanhope N.J and it only takes him 35 min. You can't listen to close mined people. It's people like that who give New Yorkers a bad name.

The entire world is a ghetto! There is crime in every city across this nation. It is signs of the times-thats all. What one have to do is find the best spot and do you. No matter where you go there will be bad people. This society is teaching its youth nothing but murder, sex and hate. Look at the videos and the tv shows, what do you see? So, no place is that safe from bad seeds. You must put on the whole armour of God so you can stand against the wiles of the devil and stay in prayer. The Holyspirit will guide you into all truths and lead you. That is the only way to go. We are living in the endtimes. Period.

OH MY, this is priceless... Welcome to Pennsyltucky, the bible belt of the North LMAO. Yup, you got it- praying to invisible, fictional beings will solve all the worlds problems. It has nothing to do with just being a decent person at all, or actually taking responsibility for raising your children to be decent people . Just because there are shows on television, that does not mean that the television has to raise your young child. It is ultimately the parents responsibility to raise good children, not the televisions....

First how many hours a day are you willing to spend commuting to and from work each day? 2-3 hours each way is not unusual not to mention the $$ of traveling. You may want to look in CT near a rail line to make life easier. I lived in western NJ about 20 mins from PA and had neighbors who made the 2 hour commute (each way) each day they were beat by the end of the week. 12-14 hour work days get old real fast not to mention kicking your butt. You would only see your kids on weekends.....

MSUNIQUE, You've posted on a thread that is over a decade old. Please start a new thread so posters will respond to you and not the first very old posts. Also, you should post in this forum //www.city-data.com/forum/north...-pennsylvania/ instead of the general one.

I moved to Monroe County from NYC. My husband and I moved he escaping from the high cost of living in NYC. Honestly I don’t see any differences in the prices. Food still cheaper in NYC and the restaurants too. Communiting to NYC is very good, but you must wake up early to not hit the 6:00am traffic. You will be in the city in no time. I moved to PA in June 29, 2018 and we are October 10, 2018 and am still looking for permanent work. I applied to become a substitute because is the only flexible job now. The work shedule in PA is crazy hrs like starting from 7:45am not a 8:00am or 9:00 am to 5:00pm. Hope this substitute job allows me to work at my child’s school Distric so it gives me the opportunity to drop her off and pick her up. We purchased a brand new home and my husband job slow down so I hope and trust in God to survive this stage because having a home is good, but when the job is steady it makes it easier.

Wait for winter... huge cost to heat a home compared to ConEd prices. Sticker shock for folks who had heat and hot water included as renters.

Hi,
I live in NJ. I will not be commuting to work . I will find a job in PA. I want to be about 90 minutes from the Bergan county area in NJ, to visit my family. I am looking for a nice place to live but in a condo community where there is things to do and people to be around. I am not looking for a single family home , just a nice area to live in w a good community of friends and churches also.
Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks
