What I am wondering is what type of area is Farrell and Sharon as far as job wise and safety? Are there places there that should be avoided? Are the school systems there any good? I have a kindergarten aged child. My family will be moving there more than likely before Thanksgiving.

I've never lived in Farrell / Sharon but I went to college not far from that area, in Grove City. Ask any locals where you should move to, in the area, and they'll generally tell you to go anywhere as long as you "stay away from Farrell".

Do a search on Realtor.com for Sharon and the surrounding areas. Check out which houses appear to have the lowest prices for the most house. Generally speaking, those are the areas you want to avoid.

Check out Farrell, Sharon, etc. on City-Data to check out the area. I've heard that Sharpsville is a good place to go.

I used to live in the area. I would look for places in the Hermitage or Sharpsville school districts. If you cannot find a place suitable in those areas, you could always opt for West Middlesex or Sharon in that order from what I remember. I would even venture to the Reynolds (Transfer, near the Shenango Lake) or Mercer areas before Farrell - it would be worth the drive!

If you will be working in that area you might also want to look into living in Ohio which is not far away.

Recent article on some of the local schools with scores:

Sharon, Farrell miss testing benchmark » Local News » The Herald, Sharon, Pa.

I don't have children. I'm just linking to the Herald article.
