Which area of pa would have the cleanest natural water source the fracking started there in 2006? I was worried about moving there. I saw maps online and my husband and I will be retiring . PA is very retirement friendly ,close to family, but we are very country like people and would want to live off the land(garden , hunt etc). Does anyone have any advice at all concerning any areas that have goiod air quality and water in Pa.?

What maps did you see online? Were they related to water toxins? They've really cracked down on those that try to dump fracking water into the rivers. I don't think there's been a case of it in the past few years. A link to the maps would be handy.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most small streams wouldn't even be accessible to the dumping of fracking water. The big rivers already have their share of all kinds of stuff. I have no idea what would pollutants would be in the Allegheny river but I'd bet there's more then the small creeks that eventually feed into it.

Here's one map - Pennsylvania and Fracking | Earthjustice I certainly wouldn't trust the oil companies with really being able to keep that water clean.

If anyone looks at this map, be aware that the location south of Harrisburg is an error. Clicking on the icon say the location is "Penn Township, in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania," but shows it southeast of York, PA on the map.

That's quite the tree-hugger site (and I'm not talking about just their gas drilling page).

As to where to live if gas is a concern for you, I'd go with the south central part of the state. Most of the drilling is in the northern and western parts of the state.

Pennsylvania Maps

PA DEP only reports well operations info by what the fracking companies report; PA DEP does not verify reports.

The fact of the matter is that regulation or no regulation it's within their economic interests to protect ground water. Infiltration of groundwater into the well is bad, ex-filtration of anything in the well is also bad.
