there are many many towns located in Bucks County. Most of the time when you hear lovely things about the "Country" its about the northern end of the county....but most working people with decent jobs, families, homes are living in the southern or lower end. the farms are all being either sold or "preserved" in the upper part. Its very expensive to live here whether its in Levittown or Newtown. Further up in Doylestown, Bedminster, Dublin, Perkasie, etc. it gets more open landed but its just too costly for most real people. Lived here all my life -over 50 years- and have seen so much change. there is a sometimes not so quiet cultural war that goes on and on with Route One being the "mason-dixon line" of Bucks. I have lived on both sides and just chuckle because of the attitude some have. Its a regular war between the haves and the have nots. And most nicer people have been transplanted here and told to move into Yardley, Newtown, Buckingham, etc areas. Crime is bad EVERYWHERE here. it just depends on what kind it is and how much the parents can afford to defend the kids. Probably not a good idea tax wise to stay in NJ but I think Id consider all of the options. Friends live near Penn State and theyd never move back here. Keep looking around there is my suggestion. Good Luck!

Of course it depends exactly where you currently reside in NJ, but odds are taxes will be lower in Bucks, and the home prices will definately be lower (at least if you're coming from North Jersey). Even with all the development in some of the northern parts of Bucks County, it still can be very countrified. The problem with places like Doylestown and New Hope is that they are secluded and difficult to get to. There's no realy highway that takes you down through Bucks County to the turnpike. Most of the people moving to Upper Bucks are definately the "haves" so there's plenty of luxury cars around. Will you still work in NYC? Many people in Upper Makefield commute to New York or North Jersey for work.

Quakertown is 5 minutes from the turnpike and home prices are considerably more affordable ... very family-friendly town, great schools, safe communities. Taxes will generally be much less than the "Socialist Republic of NJ" not to mention car insurance.

At least for us, we feel very safe and welcome in Quakertown and the area, I can't think of a better place for my family.
