My husband has accepted a job offer in Salem, NJ. We would like to live in PA. We have three children (two of which are elementary age) and are looking for a safe, family friendly town with good schools. Are there any towns in PA that would be close to Salem, NJ. We would like to avoid a long commute for my husband.

Your only real choice here would be something in Delaware County, which is between Philadelphia and Wilmington, DE. One community that immediately comes to mind is the quaint college town of Swarthmore, PA, which would be about a 45-minute ride each way to Salem, NJ. It appears as if anything decent in Delaware County is going to be at least a 45-minute commute. The nearest PA community to Salem would be Chester, PA, but I haven't heard nice things about that city. I've heard nothing but great things about Media, PA, but that would put your husband's commute in the hour range. You might want to try posting this same inquiry in the Philadelphia sub-forum, as some of the folks on there actually live in Delaware County and could provide you with some better advice than I could from up here in Scranton.
