How old or young is your home? Are you happy with it?

MY house was built in 1918. I believe it underwent a major remodel sometime in the early 60's. Little by little it's undergoing another one. I love my house.

Our home was built during a suburban housing boom following the Hurricane Agnes Flood of 1972. I truly don't like living here at all. We're only one minute from the onramps to I-81 and I-476, which makes our home a convenient spot for commuters to either Scranton or Wilkes-Barre, both of which are about 12 minutes away via I-81, but you can't walk anywhere from here. Need a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread at the last minute? Hop in the car. Want to shoot some hoops or play some ball at the park or playground? Hop in the car. Want to head to a friend's home? Hop in the car. I travel an average now of about 1,500 miles per month because my car and I have become attached at the hip. The house itself is nothing out of the ordinary---three bedrooms, one full bath, living room, dining room, kitchen, one-car attached garage and about 1,500 square-feet of living space on one floor, but property taxes are nearing $4,000 per year, and our home would now sell for over $200,000 due to the fact that we live in what is considered to be a "desirable" and growing suburban community. Not too shabby considering my parents purchased it in 1996 for only half as much. That's an appreciation in value of about 10% annually.

Our house was built around 1890. I love the character of it. The only thing I'd change right now is to add 1/2 bath and replace the windows, other than that it is a great house.

My house was built sometime in the 1920's-30's. They don't build them like this anymore. The houses built today will be falling apart by the time they are as old as mine, if they make it that far, with all of the cheap building materials used these days....nothing made of particle board will last too long.

We own a four-year old single house in Lititz. I like the house but I don't like the way builders insulate new houses anymore. Instead of using R-11 for the interior they just wrap the whole house with Tyvek. Other then that no complaints.

Kristy or any one else...Why would you move from a house that is only 5 years old? I see a lot of homes in the 1-6 years old going up for sale....and I can't for the life of me figure out why!

same reason cars that age go up for sale haha people like new stuff, and i'm sure all the games people are playing with interest rates on the new homes has something to do with it, i've heard alot of stories of people selling their homes as soon as interest rates go up.

That's what I'd like to know. Does anyone have a home or know someone with a home that has been recently built? I just wonder what the quality of those homes are. Does anyone think these homes will stand the test of time? How will these homes be 40, 50, 60 years from now? Just curious. I see many different home builders offering new homes, but will these new homes maintain their structural integrity in the long run? It's true that a new home is more likely to be trouble free for a long time but has anyone had any bad experiences with a new home? Or do you know of anyone who has had a bad experience?
