My wife and I (both in our mid 60's) are looking into 55+ communities and are thinking of moving from NY to get away from the high taxes, ect. We would like input from residents to some of the communities about what they like and dislike about where they live. We have searched the Delaware forums also and that forum has an active 55+ forum going but I do not see it here in the Pennsylvania forums. Any help would be appreciated. Bob D.

Frankly, I don't wish to be cast as a member of any group. What does exactly happen at 55? I have passed that marker and don't recall anything memorable happening. To each his own but I have lived in a gated community and didn't like it one bit.

I've heard that Hershey's Mill in Chester County is quite nice.

I think the big motivator for a lot of people is the opportunity for getting new, quality housing with community amenities at a decent price. That's why my cousins moved from the Northeast to Heritage Creek in Bucks County 10 years ago. They're in their late 50s. I wouldn't say they're "old"-acting, but they don't go out a whole ton.

I agree. Liberty Hill is very nice, and State College is attractive to many retirees due to the university and cultural activities. And now would be a good time to buy compared to a few years ago, when the State College market was hot.

Not exactly a "Sun City" in terms of weather, but if you're coming from NY, it will be either similar or better than what you're used to, depending on whether you are coming from eastern or upstate NY.
