Yes, but the shops and restaurants were never built.

Chester is in a league of its own. Even Camden has bright spots in the form of RU-C, the NJ State Aquarium, and the Susquehanna Bank Center.

I find downtown Lancaster to be rather nice, myself. I'd be inclined to consider a condo or apartment there if I could walk to my employer. However, conditions seem to deteriorate quickly not far south of there.

Notwithstanding the casino, the soccer stadium and Widener University, Chester indeed faces a mountain of challenges.

Not really, it is rather scenic and the views are pretty nice. The address is Chester, but you are right that the "downtown" is not really that visible from the stadium.

PPL Park
1 Stadium Dr Chester, PA 19013

Maybe they should create a new downtown?

yes, really.
the taxpayers funded the Linc with the idea soccer could be played there. then the taxpayers were forced to build a stadium in chester, where nobody wants to go and none of the fans live, at extra expense with the empty promise that it would include shops and a grocery store that might actually help the struggling city. instead, it's extremely inconvenient to transit and there's been no extra develop. stadium=FAIL

Go to a game at the stadium, it is pretty nice and the views are impressive. Public funding of sports facilities is an interesting issue and I was very surprised they built the stadium in Chester, but you really can't go back in time and undo what has been done. Many people complain about the location of this stadium and the lack of nearby amenities, but the stadium itself is rather nice. Oh and by the way watching soccer in an American football stadiums sucks. Having a soccer specific stadium for the Union is pretty awesome and if you don't believe me go to a Revolution game sometime and compare with the atmosphere at PPL Park.

that doesn't change the fact that it's a poor place to put the stadium. had they put it next to sugarhouse casino it would still be a nice park with great views. the linc was designed to accomodate soccer so I'm not sure there's much truth to the soccer stadium argument, in fact, they do play soccer there on occasion. have you been to the linc to see a soccer game?

Built to accommodate soccer and built for soccer are much, much different. So there is complete truth and it is not even an argument if it is better to watch soccer in a soccer stadium vs. a football stadium. Especially when you look at the size and dimensions of EPL stadiums compared to NFL stadiums. Yes there have been some pretty big soccer events at the Linc, but that does not mean the facility is an ideal venue for soccer. Also, if the Union played regular season games at the Linc there would be a significant amount of empty seats, which would definitely change the atmosphere.
