We are probably moving in late summer to the Baltimore area, and have a child with autism. What public school districts are recommended (or should be avoided!!) for autism special education? The job is in the Milford Mill area, but we don't mind a commute of 60-90 minutes if it's worth it for good schools and good neighborhoods. Some have also suggested we look at PA, so all input would be appreciated.

FYI, but in PA, if your child has an autism diagnosis and the school district doesn't have autism support, they have to bus your child to a school that does.

I assume you're looking for opinions in York County because of your job in Baltimore? If so, Northeastern, Central, and Spring Grove school districts provide autism support. Not sure if there are others or not, I do know West York does NOT have autism support (which blows my mind).

You would be serviced by Lincoln Intermediate Unit and placed in the school that has autism support, hopefully the one closest to where you were residing. I know York Suburban has a class at the high school level; and it services students from Eastern, Suburban, Red Lion and Dallastown.
