I planned a trip to NYC from Texas with an Aussie visitor, going through New Orleans and up the coast (leaving the middle of August and coming back after the first week in September), and now need to plan how to get home. What is the most scenic route from Philadelphia PA to Nashville, TN, in say 4 days?

If you like travelling through picturesque farm country and small and medium-sized urban areas visiting historic places, etc., then I would recommend US 30 through southern PA. This is the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and big celebrations are planned there. Get off route 30 at Ligonier, head south on 711 to 381 passing through rugged country to see Frank Lloyd Wright's "Fallingwater." South of "Fallingwater" at Farmington are 2 of the most sumptuous resorts in the USA belonging to Nemacolin Woodlands. If you have money to burn, you might want to spend a night. A bit further south you hit W.VA. Can't make any suggestions beyond PA.

You might want to check out the Skyline Drive in VA. You could also do the Luray Caverns: Luray Caverns > Home

Actually all of Route 81 down through VA is pretty. You go right down the Shenandoah Valley. You could even take a side trip to the Smokey Mountain State Park in NC. In TN you could take a side trip to Dollywood: Dollywood and Dollywood's Splash Country | Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Vacation Destination. That is not too far out of the way for your trip to Nashville and it might even fit in?

If your coming through our area (the Poconos) you might want to check out this link: http://www.800poconos.com/things-to-...FdKe4AodiiQALQ

I just wanted clarification. You mention NYC, New Orleans, TX, driving up the coast, Philadelphia and Nashville. You also mention driving up the coast (I-95?). You have me a little confused? I am presuming you live in Philadelphia or you live in Nashville?

This post might be better on the National City-Data “Travel” forum?

That's a simple answer, the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Quote:
Blue Ridge Parkway - Blue Ridge Parkway

Experiencing "America's Favorite Drive"

A Blue Ridge Parkway experience is unlike any other, a slow-paced and relaxing drive revealing stunning long-range vistas and close-up views of the rugged mountains and pastoral landscapes of the Appalachian Highlands. Protecting a diversity of plants and animals, the Parkway meanders for 469 miles, providing opportunities for enjoying all that makes this region of the country so special.
469 miles, it starts in Virgina and ends at the Great Smokey Mountain National Park.
