Things are bonkers lately. Many drug busts- just yesderday the Edison Hotel was torched. I hear sirens all the time these days. What is going on? [Sunbury, Lewisburg area]

PS- I owe the poster who complained about Lewisburg an apoligy. Things are nuts right now.

I think the local people are finally pulling their heads out of the sand regarding the drug situation so more is being done about it and more arrests are being made. Having moved "across the river" I think you'll find that you hear many more sirens than you used to. Sunbury's a bigger city (and it is incorporated as a city rather than a borough) so there are more police, more fire trucks, more everything. Hopefully they settle down more at night so you can get some sleep.

That's a shame about the Hotel Edison. I hope they throw the book at that guy. He not only endangered a beautiful landmark, but many people's lives as well.

Pretty crazy about the fire at the Edison but the guy had a prior arson charge I think. Is the Edison bar closed up? I had a high school friend in from Montana and we went there as it seems to be one of the better relaxed bars in the area but it was closed on a Wednesday night at 7:30. It was probably about a week before the fire situation occurred. I always liked going there with old high school friends are in town and watching sports on their big tv.

I haven't noticed anything different. There's always drug busts going down. Shootings too...

I know the Hotel Edison is for sale, so maybe some things have changed. Chuck's Sports Bar in Selinsgrove is for sale too, including the liquor license. So there you go, R.J. Buy it and turn it into what you like, atmosphere-wise, and make a ton of money and retire rich and happy.

Nocturnal, I think Sunsetcliff is noticing it more because he moved "across the river" from sleepy Selinsgrove to sultry Sunbury.

I hardly go to the bars in this area so owning a bar probably wouldn't be a good adventure for me I think I don't go out because there really aren't any bars with good atmospheres. I lived in State College and reallly enjoyed some of the bars down that way. But maybe I'm just getting older and lamer so don't enjoy the nightlife anymore

Didn't realize Chuck's was for sale but makes sense as it always seems to be changing names and I'm guessing ownership. I think I've only been in there once or twice and it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be lol.

I only know the sports bar is for sale because it's in the real estate booklet that comes in the newspaper once a month. I'm surprised someone doesn't snatch it up just for the liquor license. The PLCB won't issue any new regular licenses in Snyder County. I guess a friend of mine's sister goes to Chuck's too, but I've never been. I have three kids at home and I'd rather spend my time with them (and my husband) than out in bars and places that my kids can't go. I can only imagine the headaches that are involved with running a business like that and dealing with people who've had "one too many".

I was browsing the forum and a few people recommended the Lewisburg State College area...but drug busts (which occur everywhere) and shootings make the area sound a little unsafe?

I've lived in Pleasant Gap outside of State College and never thought of it (SC) as a majorily unsafe area. There are crimes there but like you said that happens everywhere. I wouldn't lie if I didn't say I was cautious when walking down the main streets very late at night but never had any problems there. I lived there from 2002 to 2005. I have read of some crimes involving football players and locals lately that make me wonder if it's becoming more unsafe though. I don't think twice about being in Lewisburg anywhere as it's very safe. However, I've lived a bit in Cincinnati and had a shooting occur two blocks over from my apartment building so State College and Lewisburg seem distantly safe compared to that

The greater Lewisburg area- when there is crime- it gets punished. It doesnt GET any safer in the USA.

Law is taken VERY seriously- in the 4 counties-Northumberland, Snyder, Mountour, Union.
