Unemployment insurance in NJ has DDU Disability During Unemploment so NO you do not have to be able to work to collect you just have to apply under DDU.

This is awful. I was just diagnosed with a rare disease and will be out of work up to 2 years. I will be out on the street waiting for federal disability. This is absolutely wrong! All states should have temporary disability! What's worse is I paid nj disability because while I live in philly I worked in NJ. Can I collect temp disability from NJ??

Sandy, You've bumped up a thread from 2006. It would be much better if you start a new thread, and better yet if you started it in the New Jersey forum, since you are asking about collecting disability there.

When you bump up an old thread with a new question, people will often respond to the first poster or some will respond to you and others will still respond to the new poster. It gets confusing.
