Scrapple and shoo-fly pie. I grew up in Berks County, but haven't lived there for a long time...so now I have to make my own of both.

So blauskies, you've listed some of my favorite things above! I'll have to put some chicken and waffles on the menu now -- hope you're happy.

I tried Southern Style Chicken & Waffles, which is Fried Chicken and Waffles, not the same as what I grew up on, the flavor just does not compliment itself like it does with PA Dutch Style, the gravy and tender chicken is a flavor I cannot forget!

Nice trip down memory lane in your post, thank you.
They use to serve PA Dutch Style Chicken Pot Pie in elementary and middle school when I was a kid, surely it's off the menu by now.

At our HS, the favorite item is chicken turnovers.

Thank you (and others) for posting links to your faves. Even though I've been here most of my life, I've not heard of some of these! I need to get out more. Good stuff.

Yes, that's where I remember the chicken and waffles from, too.

Do they fry everything down south?

But I agree, there's nothing like good old Dutch style cookin'.

yanno, what I never could understand, there are 2 pot pies....
One is made with a crust bottom and top, like a pie
and the other is made with pot pie dough, or noodles?

Not sure if it was already mentioned, but "Greek Sauce," which is kind of like Chili, but a little different. In Erie several places put it on hotdogs and hamburgers and New York Lunch is my favorite place. Another place I forgot to mention earlier was Hank's Custard near Meadville, which has the best custard I have ever tasted.
