Hi all ... my first post ... hoping for some wise guidance.

So, I live in Brooklyn, NY and work in NYC. Like the idea of having a small house in PA (3-4 bdrm), not tooo far away from NYC .. up to 2 hours maybe (I liked Harrisburg, PA, but it's almost 3 hour drive). Nothing crazy and yet, want the house to be decent hence, up to $250,000 budget possible.

Want to have a cozy place to use as a getaway from all the city life for the weekends. Would be nice if there was a big town or something nearby for hanging out, movies, some activities and such. Maybe a lake, or a ski slope, something.

If I ever decide to rent out my place for some period of time, also would be nice to have this house in an area where there is some demand for renting.

So my question is ....

1) Is this a good idea?
2) What PA town would sound like a good place for what I am looking for.

any other info?? what to look out for, anything I should consider, etc, etc./

thank you

Poconos or maybe around Blue Mountain or Bear Creek is all I can think of in PA within a 2 hour drive of NYC

I agree with the Poconos, especially if you want to do any vacation type rentals.

I notice not too many properties available in Poconos on Trullia or Zillow. Weird. I also noticed that prices dropped compared to 2007,. Is this a good time to buy?

I would suggest asking on the NEPA forum about homes in the Poconos.
