Hi All, Love this site and the helpful people on it. I currently live in Annapolis, and while I love the community it has become too expensive. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about a place close to the PA/MD border. I would want a single family home around $300,000. I am retired, but very active and not ready for the over 55 type communities, and not to be too picky, but I'd love a community feel - cute town nearby. Any suggestions as to where to start my search? I wouldn't mind hearing from realtors as well.

Blue Ridge Summit, which was a summer residence for the Baltimore rich for many years and is right on the PA-MD border. Would you believe that the Duchess of Windsor was born there?

My first thought was Hanover, but it might be a bit too far west for you. Nice old residential architecture there, and a walkable downtown. Admittedly the downtown itself is pretty dead these days compared to somewhere like Annapolis, but it is well-preserved at least.

Out of the major South-Central PA cities, York has the best/quickest access to Maryland (from 83) but I feel that the Lancaster area is better overall in terms of vitality.

although lancaster would be out of the question if you were commuting, lancaster city might be a great fit...not as fancy as annapolis but a lot more going on than a lot of other small cities. Harrisburg has more than its share of crime problems but it also has a nice, active downtown and good access to maryland/highways. on the smaller, quieter side you might look into columbia

Oxford is an interesting area. Its got lots of open space and doesn't get too congested until you get into Rising Sun across the border. There's not a whole lot there but its within commuting distance to places of interest like Lancaster, Delaware, Philly and the eastern shore.

Oxford is in very urban Chester County. Did you mean New Oxford in Adams County?
