Here are a few excerpts from the study and i have included the links below:

"the pennsylvania state data center is forecasting an 11.5 percent rise in erie county's population by 2040, with the number of county residents soaring to nearly 313,000.
coordinators of the study cite a projected number of births outpacing the number of deaths and a significant bump in migration to erie county as reasons for the spike."

"people moving to erie county from other states and countries will increase by nearly 16,000 by 2040, according to the study.

Wasn't one of the largest railroad manufacturing factories in the world the Baldwin Locomotive Works which had something like 18,000 workers on it's 100 acre site right on North Broad Street? Isn't any wonder that Philly lost 600,000 people between 1950 and 2000?
I don't understand why some of the posters from Philly on these boards seem to turn everything into a competition, even despair and economic collapse. Since 1960, the city of Erie has lost about 38,000 residents or approximately 28% of its population. Since 1960, the city of Philadelphia has lost about 25% of its population, but has also been on a major upswing recently and the population is increasing again. Since 1960, the city of Pittsburgh has lost about 51% of its population and is finally experiencing some modest growth. I would have to say Pittsburgh wins the "competition" of despair and economic collapse, but at least things are looking good for the future of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia and there is finally some positive news for Erie.

Let's not let this thread die too early okay?

I love this discussion so far.

I'm a bit weary of those sizable numbers, considering the county lost a few hundred people in the 2013 census estimates.

Good point about the census estimates and future projections. It is interesting that Erie county is projected to have significant growth over the next 30 years. I think the first aspect of the projection makes sense and it does appear that births are starting to outpace deaths in Erie county and this makes sense given the recent influx of refugees and immigrants through the International Institute. Immigrants tend to have more children and since Erie is becoming an immigrant city again this is something that will influence the birth rate in the near future. I am not sure about the in migration from other areas of the state or country though and I think that is the bold part of the projection. I posted some numbers about Erie's immigration below and a link. While I don't agree with the politics of the blog I linked, the numbers are accurate and can be traced back to the government immigration numbers. The refugee numbers for Erie are higher than I expected and it is amazing that Erie has brought in more refugees than Pittsburgh since 2001.

Top five resettlement cities (since 2001) for Pennsylvania are:
Philadelphia: 6,782
Erie: 4,989
Pittsburgh: 3,283
Lancaster: 2,495
Harrisburg: 1,310
