Hello,
Trying to sell my car privately here in southern pa but new to this process. I've looked on penndot's website but its still unclear. Do I really have to have me and the buyer go to a notary? Car I'm selling has pa tags and registered/titled in pa. I'm from Maryland originally and the process was very straight forward.
Thanks for any help/advice

Yes, notary or AAA has their own notary and you can do everything there. Switch plates, report the sale, switch title. Only gets confusing if they have to secure a loan to purchase your car.

We've advertised our used cars and met the buyers at a fast tag place. It was easy to switch everything over right there.

I'm from Pittsburgh originally, but now live in Florida. Here all we do is sign the title and date it and send the new buyer on his way. But I have to admit, that has pitfalls. If he doesn't go down and register it you are still the registered owner and if it gets in a wreck ,or otherwise in trouble, you could have problems.

I sold a car recently to a girl I didn't trust to register it (I pulled up her arrest record on line after the sale ! ) so I went down to the tax office and filled out a form stating what date I sold the car, that way I was legally off the hook.

When I lived in Pa it was kind of a hassle to find a notary, but at least you were protected and the car was no longer your responsibility.

Yep. Makes sense to make sure the sale is done legally and completely. I used AAA.
