Penn State

UPenn

Lehigh

Carnegie Mellon

Pitt

Duquesne

Robert Morris

How does one of the most prestigious Ivy League universities get put below Penn State, CMU, and Pitt? And your putting Penn State at the top after it became a national embarrassment with Sandusky? Please.

Also, why is Swarthmore not on the list? I'd say its second only to Penn.

Penn State would not have belonged at the top of this list even before Sandusky. And I'd add Bryn Mawr and Haverford if we are adding Swarthmore, but they are liberal arts colleges, not universities. Also, Bucknell, Franklin and Marshall, Lafayette, and Dickinson.

What are we ranking them based on exactly? Each school has its strong programs. Its also tough to beat PSU's alumni network for turning that degree into an actual job earning dough. If you want to get into academic rankings its probably:

UPenn
Bucknell
CMU
Lehigh
PSU
Pitt
etc...

http://mup.asu.edu/research2012.pdf

Because universities are (when you are on the inside, evaluating a position) ranked based on how well they do in research and research grants.

Granted, naive incoming students and forum posters evaluate based on US News, Sandusky, and other erstwhile inane qualifiers.

A pervert in the football program has no bearing on the quality of education that students receive. Jerry Sandusky's malfeasance didn't magically prevent professors from teaching effectively.
