Hi,
I'll be moving to State College in a couple of week and have to find a place to live. There are lots of different apartment, townhome complexes out there. But, as a middle aged professional, I don't want to rent in a complex that is primarily students or something that's dumpy or ill kept. Because of this sudden move and time crunch, I'll have to move sight unseen. Seeking two BR, perhaps furnished. Also want a good middle/high school district as my family might join me in the summer or fall.

Please recommend locations/complexes I should consider and also those to stay away from.
Thanks you in advance.

Toftrees is a nice area. It's close to everything, but it's not in downtown State College. It's mainly populated with grad students and I've never had to worry about random parties at 3AM. Of course, the tradeoff is that it is a little more expensive rent-wise with rents averaging around the $1000/month mark.

Just remember that housing in SC is always tight in general. What you see this week may not be there next week.

Thanks. I'm considering a condo in Summit at Shiloh or a house in Bellefonte. Do you have any opinions of those and the quality of the public middle and high schools associated with those areas?

I haven't lived here that long, but from what I've heard the state college school district (SCASD) is pretty much head and shoulders above everything else. I don't have kids, so I can't really answer that question. They do score pretty high on nationwide rankings.
