Start with West Deer Township in Allegheny County, and spread out from there. Focus on northeastern Allegheny County and southeastern Butler County.

This thread may get more traction in the Pittsburgh forum as that's where the locals hang out.

You're not providing enough information for someone to be able to offer much advice. The Allegheny Valley exit of the Turnpike is about half way. I would start looking out Route 28 until it get rural enough for you.

The information needed to give you advice includes:
1. Where will you be working?
2. What is your budget?
3. How much land do you want?
4. Do you have kids and if so, what kind of school district do you prefer?
5. How do you define rural? Do you want small town, out in the country, access to shopping, etc.?
