Where do residents from Erie and Allentown vacation to? I'm curious to see if it's more Jersey shore, DE beaches, New York, etc.

From Wilkes-Barre, my family went to the New Jersey shore. My friend's family used to go to Northeastern New York not far from Lake Ontario. The friends who moved to Williamsport took the family to Rehoboth, Delaware. That was the standard, annual family vacation.

My family has a place in Cape May so I usually go there for a few weeks a year and I also spend some time in Philly each year when I am out that way. Most of my planned vacations recently have been in Canada and I really like Niagara on the Lake and Toronto. I also go to Chautauqua Lake quite often as it is just a short drive from Erie.

We live outside of Allentown but generally vacation several states away. This summer we're going to California. We vacation with family that live all over the US, so no reason to go to expensive crowded NJ or DE places. Friends have a place at the Outer Banks so we go there too. We're very familiar with the Delaware beaches, having grown up there, but don't vacation there. Too crowded. I know several people around here that go to LBI, Cape May and some that go to Bethany Beach in DE. I'm not sure any state is strongly favored over another.

Jersey Shore would be in between the two, and a newly developed gateway Pine Creek Valley.com, Jersey Shore Parking Area in the Pine Creek Valley Pa to the Pine Creek Rail Trail through the "Pennsylvania Grand Canyon." The - Waterville Tavern would be a great turn around point to a family ride in from JS.

I've vacationed in both Ocean City, NJ and Ocean City, MD. We also vacationed in Williamsburg for many years.

Some of my friends from Erie own or rent cottages in Chautauqua, or at other nearby lakes -- Findley, Canadohta, Pymatuning, Conneaut.

Chautauqua also was a popular place for us teens to get summer jobs; I'm sure it still is. So it was kinda like a vacation, except you worked your tail off and lived in a hot, cramped room on the fourth floor of a building, with three other girls. LOL

Other than that, and maybe the Finger Lakes, Washington, Boston, New York, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg ... I can't think of any one destination more popular than another. Erie isn't like Philly, where quite a lot of people go to the shore or the Poconos. I don't know anyone from Erie that goes to Jersey (except now I know Trackstar13 goes there!).

Erie goes mainly to NY and Ohio. The big trips are mostly to the beaches of the South.

I've vacationed Delaware beaches most of my life as well, which do you find crowded? Ocean city and the Jersey Shore always seemed significantly more crowded to me than Delaware.

I don't know what Delaware beaches are not crowded - From Lewes down to Bethany - either the beaches are crowded or the roads are. The locals know to stay inland during the summer, at least during the weekend. Don't get me wrong, I grew up down there and have lived in Rehoboth and Dewey, but don't like any of them too much in the summer. Off season is a different story.
