I am considering a move to PA, specifically the Beaver Falls area and I am concerned about the attitude of the health care community there. I am a chronic pain patient and on medication which makes any moves a problem for me. I have TONS of documentation and all relevant lab and MRI verification but still some areas just don't care. If anyone has any helpful information, it would really be appreciated. Thanks.

PA is very strict when it comes to prescription drug abuse. My physician received a warning from the PA Bureau of Narcotics and Drug Control concerning benzodiazepin (schedule 4) sleeping pills that he was prescribing for me (I'm an insomniac). He now refuses to write a sleeping pill script. Under the newest guidelines, a physician or dentist can only prescribe a pain pill like oxycontin for 4 days max.

However, the PA legislature just legalized medical marijuana although I don't know when it will become available. That might help.

It was president Richard Nixon and his attorney general, John Mitchell (wound up in jail), who pushed through the "controlled substances act" that cracked down on doctors who wrote scripts for certain medications that might be habit forming.

President Obama has made cracking down on drug abuse a top goal of his presidency. As you stated, this affects everyone even those people who have a legitimate reason to be on opioid pain pills. Write to Obama's head of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and voice your anger. See link below.
