Thanks! Chambersburg is only around 15-20 minutes from Shippensburg so I would still be able to volunteer there without an issue. Shippensburg does seem like a nice town, just not somewhere that me and my husband would want to hang out on a weekend night. It's geared more toward the college kids. My husband was told to steer clear of downtown Chambersburg due to increased crime. I fear that if that is the case, we will have to drive all the way to Hagerstown to have a quaint downtown feel. Is Chambersburg really getting that bad?

How bad is Chambersburg? I am beginning to look for work and I find myself shying away from here. I'm not sure if it is necessary? Also, where is the closest bay/ocean/large body of water?

Thanks again!

Default Water

Long Pine Run Reservoir in Michaux State Forest. There's a ferry across the Susquehanna at Millersburg.

There are a lot of streams and creeks in the area, but I don't know about access. I think you can find the ocean all by yourself.

There are a few parts of Chambersburg that aren't ideal to visit at night (the Southgate Shopping Center area being one of them), but it's perfectly safe during the day. Most people visit civic institutions downtown during the day (Courthouse, borough hall, post office, library, etc.), and many are professionals.

Ok, thanks! The person he talked to made it sound like it should be avoided at all costs lol! That would have been disappointing since there are so many shops on the outskirts of town. Plus, the town itself seemed pretty nice when we drove through.

The suburban shopping areas (Norland Avenue, Lincoln Way, Wayne Ave., etc.) are some of the safest places in town, so you shouldn't worry about them either. Like I said before, there are a few places around town to avoid, but even those are pretty safe during the daytime.

From what I can see, those good areas you mentioned include the area right off the interstate that includes Target, Fuddruckers, Buffalo Wild Wings, Rue 21, etc?
