Hello,

I had started a thread regarding Chambersburg, but this question is slightly different. My husband and I are currently deciding between a home in Shippensburg and one in Newburg. I am strongly favoring the one in Shippensburg. My question is this....can a middle aged couple still enjoy life in Shippensburg? We realize that is is mainly a college town. We probably won't be able to enjoy ourselves in town on a Friday or Saturday night. However, is it still a nice place for all ages during the week and day? Are there other things for families to do?

What particularly did you have in mind? Outdoor recreation? Shopping? Dining?

Dining, although I know there are a lot of chain restaurants nearby. Any smaller places would be good...somewhere to stop and have dinner and a drink or 2 on a Saturday night where it's not all college kids. I know there is a lot of outdoor things to do. Shopping seems to be abundant. I love quaint little towns to walk through, hometown festivals, etc...Anything with water. I know we're not too far from Md, but am not sure how far from say the Potomoc River we are? I just want to make sure it's not JUST a college town.

As someone who has lived in the area for a while, I'm not sure that you'll find much in the way of excellent dining or festivals in Shippensburg. Shippensburg has a large festival in the summer, and it has the Luhrs Center for entertainment, but it's more or less just a college town that requires driving to places. Outdoor recreation can be found North or South of Shippensburg in the mountainous areas.
