When you cross the Schuylkill, it doesn't really feel like you're on a bridge. It's very pedestrian oriented. It's very European.
We must have different feelings of what bridges are, because it feels pretty much like walking over a bridge on Market, too. Felt like a bridge walking over the Legions Bridge in Prague as well. I looked down and I was crossing a body of water. Is it looking up at the steel structure that makes a difference in Pittsburgh? Either way, it feels pretty safe as a connector from one point to the next on the RC Bridge.

I definitely hear what you're saying regarding 30th Street area, but you realize this is an entire focus area for the city right now? Brandywine Realty Trust has proposed the Schuylkill Yards development here.

This area is changing more and more every year. In a few years, you're not ever going to feel like you left Center City.

-New apartment building at 30th and Chestnut with a Coffee shop on the ground floor. Parking lot immediately behind this is the site of a 515 foot proposed highrise tower as a part of Schuylkill Yards
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9533...7i13312!8i6656

-The Plaza next to 30th Street Station known as "The Porch" has been completely re-imagined, and there are plans to further rebuild and enhance the area around the station:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9547...7i13312!8i6656

-These buildings which now house restaurants and shops, will eventually be demolished to make way for two new towers as a part of the Schuylkill Yards development:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9548...7i13312!8i6656

-Across the street, this parking lot is being turned into a new park called "Drexel Park"... the Bulletin Building next to it, will be turned into space for innovation labs:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9549...7i13312!8i6656

-Furthermore, this building here will be demolished and replaced by two highrises, one of which will rise over 1,000 feet.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9551...7i13312!8i6656

-32nd and Market Street is where you start to hit more pedestrian oriented development
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9553...7i13312!8i6656

-Ditto for 32nd and Chestnut
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9538...7i13312!8i6656

Furthermore, FMC Tower has really upgraded the experience on Walnut Street. Penn is planning a 400+ foot tower across Walnut Street on the parking lot for Penn Park.... they also plan to replace the Penn Rink with a new highrise as well.

Things are certainly changing for this section of University City.

Maybe it is... but to me, this:

Just doesn't seem as welcoming and pedestrian friendly as this:

the changes in this area are dramatic but it is still a dead zone and disconnected from Center City. Years ago (2004) I arrived at the 30th Street station and there was a huge banner of the future Cira Center hanging in the station. I walked around the area and imagined what a skyscraper would do for this area. So yes, the area has come along way but it is still not an active section of the city.

Is more pedestrian friendly than this?:

Lol. Just lol.
Dude, look at everyone taking my side in these arguments. You make ridiculous false statements about Pittsburgh, yes I'm going to point them out to everyone. That bridge is closed every weekend in the spring, summer, and fall for the events on the north shore because its so connected to the cultural district so yes it's more a ped/bike bridge than automobile.

Market street does connect Logan square and Drexel, but there is no speed control elements on that 5 lane road, so no it's not quite as pedestrian friendly. South and Walnut are more ped friendly-I'm a civil engineer, and I literally make planning decisions like this in my everyday life. You are wrong.

Notice you're the one attacking Pittsburgh here. You are the Philly version of Blackbeauty haha, no need for the personal attack.

See my previous post pips. The elements of Market street have been improved but it's primary focus is automobile traffic. He picked one of the worst bridges crossing the Schuylkill to argue over.

Walnut Street is more pedestrian friendly? Lol

South Street?? With it's on and off ramps to I-76? Lol
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9473...7i13312!8i6656

No... market street is by far the most pedestrian friendly. It has the widest sidewalks, the planters and benches, beautiful ornamentation, etc.

Chestnut Street will be maybe the most pedstriatn friendly after it's done being re-done by PennDot.
