I heard people saying about pa being most east midwestern state. Do you have a feeling like it's more midwest vibe here? I would say if pa got dropped somewhere further west would fit without problems.

The divide seems to be at about the Allegheny Front. Everything West seems more Midwest, while everything East seems more East Coast.

What area was settled first, Pennsylvania or the Midwest? Seems to me the question should be which areas of the Midwest are most Pennsylvania-like.

The state is too big and too varied for a one-size-fits-all description.

Agree. And, so are quite a few states, for that matter.

Ask yourself two questions:

1. Was Pennsylvania one of the 13 original colonies?

2. Were any Midwestern states among the 13 original colonies?

Greater Philadelphia is part and parcel of the "northeast corridor" and is so different from the rest of PA that it should be set free; the "northern tier" is more like upstate NY; south central PA is more like Maryland and Virginia, greater Scranton and the lower anthracite regions are a combination of Appalachia and Newark, NJ; the eastern Alleghenies are like Detroit and only greater Pittsburgh (except for the hills) and northwest PA are akin to the Midwest.
