Hello,

In considering a relocation to eastern PA, could anyone please give input on any locations with better air and water quality? We have ruled out the Lancaster area (though it's lovely) due to pesticide-induced poor air quality. This matters especially to us due to asthma. We would also like to find a place with low crime rates, but that data seems to be easier to find. Jobs are not an issue due to our fields being what they are.

Thank you!

The vast majority of water is provided by Aqua PA, so of good, and consistent quality throughout the region. I live in Chester County, and while it is undergoing tremendous development pressure is still a nice place to live. There is not nearly as much farming as in Lancaster so less debris in the air.

Thank you. Chester Co. is an area we feel comfortable in so this is good to hear.

A rural area of northern PA away from industry.

Upper Bucks County/Montgomery Counties is another option, as well (Bucks, moreso). You're generally away from the more heavily urbanized portions of the Philly area, with less farming than you'd find in Lancaster area. Good luck!

Southern Berks County (borders Chester County) would work also, but just stay away from Reading.

The water in the Poconos is very good. In fact we get our domestic water from a spring but we are the last family in our village who does so.

While we have plenty of springs and wells with great quality water; the OP should check out the allergy maps like this one: https://www.pollen.com/map/pa. I really do not know how our area is compared to other areas in the State? I presume that someplace they have that data.

On our clear water: Some areas of our County does have water that is high in sulfur and smells like rotten eggs. It is more of an exception to the rule; but still one that should be taken into consideration for people that have problems. Anybody moving anyplace should check everything; including the smell of the water.
