Does anyone live in or around the Glen Rock, PA or New Freedom or area's along PA/MD border area? I would like to know if there are any desirable school districts in the area and looking for a safe, nice community we may move to. Any feedback or input would be greatly appreciated. Looking for safe area, great school district, affordability at or under 300K home buying range. Thanks in advance!

Southwestern School District would be the best fit for your needs. Look them up on the sites that grade schools. If you want to stay closer to Route 83 for a commute back into Maryland, you should consider the southern most area of the Dallastown School District. It actually goes as far south as the Glen Rock and Loganville exits. Both of them are large districts sending (lots of students on the bus routes every day) and have had long reputations of being good districts. Your housing budget would be more than adequate for a home in a great suburb/subdivision. Both are safe areas.

Thanks so much, we saw another district called -Southern York County School District...is it near/around these areas you suggest? It seems highly rated on greatschool site, and we saw a home in our price range, but don't know anything about the area. I am going to check into your suggestions...Do any of these school disricts - towns have downtowns associated with them - like a particular town you would suggest? Is it a completely rural area or are there shopping stores near? I have my father that will be moving in with us and I need to know that he can manage to drive himself to grocery stores, golf, bowling, library...things like that. Thanks again!

Southern York County is a smaller district, and much more rural, and about 5-10 miles to the east of 83. The school district is smaller, so offerings at the high school level might not be as diverse as they would be at Dallastown or Southwestern. If that is not a concern right now, you might consider moving at a later time. As far as golf, bowling, grocery stores, most of those would be accessible off of 83 or in the Hanover area (some of which is included in the Southwestern district). The largest "pod" of services is right off of Route 83 where the Wal-Mart/Giant grocery stores sit on top of the hill at Shrewsbury exit. People from New Freedom and Shrewsbury still have to travel back to 83 and north for major shopping and to see medical specialists in/around York Hospital. The Apple Hill surgical center/campus is actually in the Dallastown School district. There are tons of golf courses in York County, but most of them are in the central or northern portion (on/off exits 16-22 of Route 83).
