I was just poking my nose into a rather heated thread on the Ohio forum in which residents of Cleveland and Cincinnati were arguing over which city is "better," and in one of the replies I came across a very interesting link that extrapolates upon U.S. Census Bureau information to predict long-term population forecasts for every metropolitan area in the nation. Well, that is interesting, though 2020 is still 12 yrs off. A lot can happen. No one envisioned 9/11 for example and the recession that followed. I see they are still predicting Pittsburgh to drop, even though many folks on that board think the population has reached its low point and is soon to start turning around. It's notable that Pgh's pop is predicted to drop by about 10% which is really a lot. We'll see!

It is indeed true that you never know for sure what may happen between now and 2020. I happen to have my doubts about the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre projection, especially since we just grew in population for the past two years, and I'm seeing more and more NY/NJ license plates on our local roadways now than ever before.
