Hey all! Here is my dilemma. I recently accepted a job in Gettysburg, PA. We have to be out of our current place by February 28th. We currently do not have the down payment to apply for a home, so therefore we are looking for a rental. My employer is going to be paying for our housing as well. Our issue seems to be that we have 3 dogs. They are all small (15 lbs, 25 lbs, 35 lbs), well trained and well behaved. Never left unsupervised either. We are quickly running out of time and keep being turned down because of the 3 dogs. Rehoming is NOT an option, seeing as we have had them their whole lives and they are our family. We are willing to pay whatever pet deposits and pet rent that has been asked. I am also currently taking courses to be a professional dog trainer. Am I S.O.L? Any tips on where to look or who to contact? Thank you!

When are you moving? ASAP
Where are you coming from? North Carolina
Why are you moving? Work
Where will you be working? Gettysburg
Have you been here yet? Visited for job interview

Will you buy or rent? If we could qualify we would buy, but probably rent
If buying, are you looking for a house or a condo? How much can you spend?
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? Townhouse or House. $1000-$1500
Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up?

Are you married or single? Do you have children? Married no kids
Do you prefer public or private schools?
Do you have pets? See above
Do you want or need a yard? Yes for the dogs
Are you keeping a car? 2 cars
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? Calm and quiet

What do you want to be closest to? Doesn't matter
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)
Train or subway stations

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood? Doesn't matter

You may need to look a bit further north up Route 15 closer to Dillsburg or Mechanicsburg which has a wide range of housing developments.

Gettysburg is considered to be more rural, and therefore housing options are limited, although there have been a large influx of transplants from the DC area, but most are affluent and the new housing reflects price points 400k plus.

I think you should find more inventory with what you need closer to Dillsburg/Mechanicsburg. It is about a 30 minute commute.

That area is part of the Harrisburg metro and has much more diversity in housing stock/price points and rental options that should fit your needs.

In general it also offers more amenities too, so while your commute will be longer, and your doggies will be well kept for, you will also have more amenities at your disposal in terms of shopping, restaurants, entertainment, etc.

Maybe nearby Hanover? Hotpads lists 31 rentals available now. https://hotpads.com/17331/apartments...=-77.0852&z=11

Maybe a little farther out into York County? Hot Pads currently lists 168 rentals there. https://hotpads.com/york-county-pa/a...n=-76.8641&z=9

Thanks guys! We ended up finding a small, short term lease apartment for a few months in East Berlin while we keep looking. We are looking in all areas, the issue is finding somewhere that will allow 3 dogs. Most pet policies are 2 dogs. But at least we found something temporary and hopefully will find something more permanent soon!

My mom was from East Berlin. Nice town. The traffic circle is the biggest thing I remember about it, lol.
