Not at all. I've lived in this state all my life and I wouldn't think of moving to another state.

Of course, there are some rough areas but that's the case with any state.

I've also lived in PA my whole life, and I definitely wouldn't categorize our weather as depressing. I've heard the weather can be a bit cloudier in NEPA during the course of the year, which I personally find depressing. Otherwise, PA is known for its weather polarity -- hot summers and cold winters.

I find the grey overcast ?smog? that permiates Chicagoland as depressing. Add to that the ugly wires overhead everwhere- the blah roads. the god forsaken cottenwood trees, and the stench from Stickney/Gary, and it makes for total D-E-P-R-E-ssion!

Ild guess otehr metros have a simmliar sky.

Default Depressing?

Yes. Southwestern and Northwestern Pennsylvania (both of which I am familiar) are very depressing in my opinion. There is very little sunshine. It is economically depressed. The culture and the people are depressing as well. Blah.

Not the entire state, but pockets of it certainly are, which holds true in every state across the nation due to wide variance within a state in economics, weather, and many other factors. I have a good number of family members scattered across small towns in Eastern Pennsylvania and find some of those places in Cambria County to be horribly depressing in terms of the atmosphere (old coal-mining towns, few jobs, lots of decrepit homes and boarded-up businesses, except for bars) and the people.

Can't speak for the rest of the state but the eastern half of the state is awesome. Philadelphia is an amazing city though not without flaws. The suburban area of Philadelphia is just outstanding and anything but depressing with an unemployment rate of about 3%.

The Lehigh Valley is gorgeous and Poconos Mts. with Scranton/ Wilkes Barre are wonderful.

You will find hardwood trees that are envied- no other area in teh east has the calibur that PA does. this is noteworthy- since the trees were plunderred 100 years ago. now they are back.
