hi everyone -- What a GREAT GREAT FORUM!!!

i love this website...Okay, I am learning so much about PA. Here's my situation. My hubby's co. is relocating to Roseland, NJ. I do not want to live in NJ if I can help it (moving from one expensive state to another -- YUck!)

So, i have been looking into PA. I know that Poconos is a no-no. I have 2 young girls, ages 9 and 5. I need excellent schools. I need very little crime. I need community involvement. (youth sports, cheerleading, etc. etc. )

!uestion 1: Do you think I will see a great reduction in "cost of living" compared to NJ/Mass? (compared to PA) It really looks like Mass and NJ are comparable and PA is much cheaper (taxes, etc). I love PA prices for homes!!

QQuestion 2:My husband is willing to travel 1 hour or a little more and it looks like some real good towns within this distance (from what I have read from this forum) include:
Forks, Milford, Dingman's Ferry.

Are there any other great places that I am missing? i am so scared about crime. Right now, we live on a culdesac, we let the kids out everyday and they have playmates who live on our street. There is always a playmate around EVERY single day!!! That is what i need Is this a possiblity in PA???

Any help is so much appreciated
Thanks!
Heather

The Lehigh Valley, which includes Forks Twp., might be a good consideration. There are probably thousands of N.Y.C./N.J. commuters who live here. Numerous great neighborhoods, well regarded schools, lots of arts and activities for kids as well as parents. Prices here are better than N.J., contributing to the growth we've experienced over the last few years. Having lived and travelled in New England (in the 80's) I think you'll find a few towns and areas here similar in character ( historic cities and towns, rolling hills, etc.)

I know of a lot of people commuting from PA to NJ. They are noticing much more traffic. So, you take 78 east to Eastern Jersey, and it can be an hour or more commute. One accident, and you are talking an hour and a half.
